WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT A PERSONAL BRAND
What is a personal brand?
When I was first introduced to the idea of personal branding, it took me a while to find the deeper meaning in this concept. I, much like a lot of you, used to think of it in terms of tangible things like colors, logo, and design. But the more I researched and practiced this idea, the more my life and my business transformed in the best possible ways. I started to connect with and embrace my own story, I got a clearer understanding of the clients I wanted to serve and how I wanted to serve them, and a vision was born for what my business could become.
As a result of all my research, professional work, and personal growth, I have created my own definition of a personal brand, one I feel encompasses all aspects of the term. It is this definition that guides all of my work.
A unique combination of ideas, values, and purpose that define who you are, what you do, and why and how you do it.
Personal branding is the idea of marketing not the physical product or service a company provides, but instead the person or persons who are behind the product or service—because that is what makes a business unique. That one thing that no other company has is the knowledge, experience, expertise, and vision of the people who established or run it. Talk to any entrepreneur and I guarantee you they will agree—the moment they started operating their business from the framework of their personal brand was the day their business begin to thrive.
Every business has a brand, whether you know it or not. If you don’t develop your own, then the world around you will. But the difference is, when you actively decide to create your own personal brand, you have control. You have the ability to create and actualize your future. To decide who you want to be and how you will show up in your business.
